Today, the Mitjavila Group has created two lines for the processing of used aluminum in its production facilities. Recycled aluminum: an even stronger commitment to the environment, which also allows us to better control the soaring cost of raw materials in recent months.

Recycled aluminum

Aluminum is a 100% recyclable material. Used aluminum is an interesting material. The recycling of aluminum does not alter its properties (strength, lightness and protection against the influences of light, dirt and oxygen). This characteristic allows it to be recycled into billets for the production of aluminium profiles or parts. Upstream of our production lines, the aluminum was until now collected and sent to external recycling centers.

Truck for aluminum recyclingHundreds of semi-trailers travelled thousands of kilometers to transport this aluminium for recycling .

So at the end of 2021, we made the decision to create recycling lines within our product (192 trips avoided per year).

Two aluminum recycling lines

Today, two machining centers will be equipped with a recycling line, one in Portugal in Nogueira and the other in France in Pierrefitte-Nestalas. The aluminium produced in our plants will be recycled within the plants themselves. A gain in terms of productivity. The Portuguese line will produce new ingots and the one in Hautes-Pyrénées will produce recycled aluminium billets directly for the extrusion plant.

A more ecological treatment

The aluminum is directly reprocessed in the production process and then returned to the extrusion presses or aluminum injection lines without further transport. Recycled aluminum also makes it possible to produce profiles and parts in a more energy-efficient manner. While the initial production of an aluminum billet consumes a lot of electricity, its recycling consumes significantly less (5% of the energy initially required).

The creation of aluminum recycling lines is a strong commitment in the history of the group.
